Master E Edward's involvement in the Indian martial arts came naturally. As one born in South Indian warrior families of the Nadars, whose training through the centuries has incorporated Kalari-Payat, he developed an instinctive love for martial arts of all kinds.

However in his youth, there were no formal facilities for Kalari Payat training in Singapore, and Master Edward was obliged to take up Chapkoondo. In the meantime, he learnt some of the advanced techniques of Kalari Payat from his father, who was himself an accomplished Kalari Payat instructor. His uncle had also contributed.

After he had obtained his Black Belt, Master Edward taught the the art for several years in 1976, and won the Singapore National Puglistic Championship.

But he continued to show an interest in Kalaripayat, which culminated in a visit to India where he was able to train under Master Gopalkrish , Master M Tilak and his father Gurukkal Ebenezer Dharmaraj Nadar. He also trained under the famous Silambam expert Dr. J David Manuel Raj, author of books "Silambam Fencing from India" (1975) and "History of Silamban Fencing - Indian Martial Arts" (1993).

Eddy returned to Singapore as a qualified Kalari Payat instructor and formally setup Kalari Payat & Silambam Centre in Singapore. He was eventually able to obtain recognition for Indian Martial arts in general and formal endosement from the Martial Arts Control Unit, Ministry Of Home Affairs to teach Kalari Payat, Silambam Maduvu, Madpar and Kuttuvarasi.

Since then Kalari Payat has become a recognized martial arts form inline with the other ethnic arts. Today, Eddy's students are very much in demand for displays in national gatherings .What is more important, they have scored great success in martial arts contests in Singapore despite their small numbers comparative to the other arts .
